Old films launched Republic return to production roots

Article Abstract:

Republic Pictures Corp has emerged from its self-imposed retirement a winner. The film rental agency closed shop in 1955 and was acquired by National Telefilm Associates in 1967 which was, in turn, bought by Tele-Communications Inc. Republic became independent in 1985 and successfully recycled their old movies through the efforts of its chairman Russell Goldsmith and chief financial officer Steven Beeks. By 1991, the firm has become the major provider of miniseries and television movies for top television networks. It has also acquired home-video licensing rights and has reproduced its television movies and miniseries in cassettes.

Although the 1991 recession caused a significant decrease in CDI's automobile-related revenues, analysts are forecasting a strong recovery in 1992 and 1993. New projects in the automobile industry, CDI's plan to provide technical services to European industry and the growth of the outsourcing market are expected to fuel this recovery.

SPX profits surge on sales of freon recovery equipment

Article Abstract:

SPX Corp has made a big profit from the sales of Freon automotive refrigerant recovery and recycling equipment from Jan to Jun 1992. This trend in sales was prompted by the 1990 Clean Air Act. SPX is the leading supplier of Freon and R-13, a less environmentally hazardous refrigerant being used in cooling systems in newer cars. Each of the two refrigerants require a separate recovery system. This need has generated more sales for SPX.
