'Omic diagnostics trip up on way to clinic

Article Abstract:

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is researching at gene and protein expression-based tests with the diagnostics companies developing such tests expected to follow the same regulatory pathway. The class of 'omic tests that measure genetic variation used for cystic fibrosis is moving upwards in the market than those measuring gene and protein expression since the 'omic tests are approved and cleared much more quickly.

Moving diagnostics from the bench to the bedside

Article Abstract:

Development of new microelectronic components that can miniaturize diagnostic devices to reduce costs and increase throughput and sensitivity of a wide range of diagnostic tests are described. Miniaturization is seen to posses the potential for solving problems in unexpected ways and changing the economics of diagnostics that are traditionally a low-margin business.

Partnering for better microbial diagnostics

Article Abstract:

Reliance on underperforming diagnostic technologies has limited the control of the world's greatest killers, especially in settings with high immunodeficiency virus prevalence. It is suggested that innovative mechanisms are needed to produce, develop and deploy new and better diagnostic tools for infectious diseases in developing countries.
