Appealing to the next generation

Article Abstract:

Improving content continues to be the key by which newspapers will be able to increase readership with the young adult market. A major strategy to tapping into this market requires content on such topics as entertainment, local news, education, environment, health, computer and parenting. Newspapers interested in catching the attention of 18-to 34-year-old readers are also advised to give particular emphasis on their weekend entertainment sections as well as in their classified ads.

The key to increasing a newspaper's readership among working women is to offer interesting content and to actively promote the initiative. Market research consistently points to a number of content areas where local newspaper can effectively focus and, hopefully, add to the number of their working women readers. These include local news, education and news regarding schools, medicine, fitness and health, parenting and consumer information and other tips.
