On the brink of a vertical take-off

Article Abstract:

Westland Group finance director Chris Bunker has helped guide the firm to financial success after the company almost went bankrupt in 1985. A reorganization of Westland's helicopter, technologies, and aerospace industries, as well as careful cash flow management, has helped the firm improve. The helicopter division, which accounts for 235 million pounds sterling turnover in the company, has various large confirmed orders. The outlook for the long-term future is also positive and includes plans for Westland to achieve a larger market share and to broaden its base into other areas.

Article Abstract:

John Mowlem and Co Finance Dir Brian Watkins believes the civil engineering and construction firm founded in 1822 has changed dramatically in the past two decades. The firm has added a new technology division which owns significant business in the US. Profits increased 66% at the end of 1987 when the firm earned 50.2 million pounds sterling in pre-tax profits. The company is focusing on houses costing under 100,000 pounds, and it has made recent investments in the London City Airport, which currently is not showing a profit.
