On the compensation implications of commercial bank entry into investment banking

Article Abstract:

The pay-performance sensitivities for commercial banks that have ventured into investment banking are extremely similar to the sensitivities for commercial banks that have opted for non-entry into investment banking. Pay-performance sensitivities for both types of commercial banks, meanwhile, were found to be less than those of investment banks. These were gleaned from a study that sought to determine the extent to which commercial banks that have begun to offer investment services have implemented pay-performance compensation systems that are similar to those utilized by investment banks.
