Palmistry: With a singular vision, Palm rose from the battleground of failed handheld devices to capture the pocket-computer market

Article Abstract:

The Palmpilot was introduced in 1996 and was the simplest electronic organizer. The Palo Alto Design Group worked on the PalmPilot after striking a deal with Palm Computing group. Palm was later sold to US Robotics, and the PalmPilot exceeded all market expectations. The IDEO Product Development Group was hired to developed the next-generation Pilot, the Palm V which has a thickness of just 0.4 inches and weight of only four ounces. US Robotics was purchased by 3Com in 1997, and the Palm VII, a wireless PDA was introduced.

Saving trees and money

Article Abstract:

A report by the Environmental Defense Fund's Paper Task Force features information and diagrams on paper and its impact on the environment throughout its life cycle. The report fails to specify or provide designers and paper purchasers with guidance on the most environment-friendly paper available. The report will be distributed among paper buyers in the US. The task force recommends reduction in the use of paper, recycling of paper and buying recycled paper.

Not a poultry affair

Article Abstract:

The 1997 American Institute of Graphic Arts Jambalaya conference was held in New Orleans. John Hockenberry served as moderator of the conference while art historian Barbara Maria Stafford presented a paper on the social aspects of images. Four short films were also shown during the morning events which was organized by program director Janet Abrams. However, the event lacked a program schedule and conference guides which created confusion among the attendees.
