Paying for care in your old age

Article Abstract:

Long-term care for the aged was not seriously debated in the UK 1997 election, though the cost of paying for such care is seen as beyond the ability of the state. Insurance for such care is expensive and cover is not guaranteed, nor is this product regulated. A judgment that allowed local government to deny care to a claimant with a low level of assets also undermines partnership schemes between private and public sectors since insurers need a guarantee that the public sector would fulfil its part of the bargain.

How to find your way in the medical-insurance maze

Article Abstract:

Private medical insurance is a growing industry attracting nearly 2 billion pounds sterling in annual premiums. It is classed as a general insurance and does not come under regulation by the Financial Services Authority, although the sale of policies is governed by an Association of British Insurers code of conduct. PMI policy terms also vary widely, so consumers are better off buying through independent intermediaries. However not all IFAs will have expertise in medical insurance.

Easing the pain of critical illness

Article Abstract:

Various types of insurance are available in the UK to cover sickness. Critical illness insurance can provide a lump sum for a condition such as stoke or cancer which is life-threatening. Private medical insurance provides funds for private medical treatment. Permanent health insurance provides an income if sickness prevents the insured from earning a living. This type of insurance has been boosted by lessened protection from the state system.
