Peanut price transmission asymmetry in peanut butter

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the price transmission asymmetry for peanuts used in peanut butter revealed that consumers may not receive the full benefits of reduced peanut price. The reduction in the price of peanuts was expected to result either from a change in the government peanut program or from trade liberalization. Results showed that the initial response of peanut butter price to a reduction in peanut prices would occur later than the response to an increase in peanut prices.
