PennWell marches ahead with agressive global expansion

PennWell Publishing Co appointed Erik Van Veenstra as managing director of its operations in Utrecht, Netherlands. The leading oil industry business publisher is also expanding its operations in Europe by targetting oil-related businesses in the Soviet Union and Germany. The company is also planning its first Global Power Generation Exhibitions and Conferences for May 25 to 27, 1993 in Paris, France. PennWell's continuing global expansion and acquisition programs indicate the company's health despite recent revamps in its executive personnel.

PennWell Publishing chairman Philip Lauinger ousted in family feud

Article Abstract:

PennWell Publishing (PennWell) Chmn Philip Lauinger was voted out by the board of directors in the family-owned firm in a move caused by family in-fighting. Lauinger was replaced by his brother, Frank. Although details were not available, the conflict stems from Philip's refusal to agree to a management plan proposed by family members. Lauinger stated that he regrets the board decision but justified his refusal to agree to the proposed plan, saying that it put him in an impossible position.

Family feud still simmers at PennWell

Article Abstract:

PennWell Publishing Co revamped its executive officers during its Jun 3, 1992 board meeting after bitter family infighting that rocked the company. Longtime chrmn and CEO Philip C. Lauinger, Jr was ousted and replaced by brother Frank Lauinger as chairman and Joseph A. Wolking as president and CEO. There were speculations that Philip Lauinger's authoritarian style led to the ouster.
