Performance under scrutiny

Article Abstract:

UK venture capital companies face demands for more data on performance. There are calls for venture capital investment to achieve recognition as a type of asset. Returns have become more transparent and this makes bench-marking easier to carry out. Active approaches to monitoring performance are becoming more common. Renumeration structure is changing and performance oriented structures are becoming more common. Venture capital companies are seeking to identify funds' providers monitoring needs.

In on the buyout bonanza

Article Abstract:

The value of UK management buyouts and similar deals rose by 39% to 37.5 billion pounds sterling in 1996 according to the University of Nottingham, while deals were up by 7% to 619 transactions. Buy-ins are becoming more important and tend to involve higher values than buyouts. There are some parallels with 1989 when some deals went wrong. There are risks in assuming that share prices will continue to perform well, though the economic fundamentals do appear more favourable in 1997.

Attitudes of local authorities change: a survey of local authorities has revealed that attitudes towards buy-outs are changing - a majority now say they are willing to consider such transactions

Article Abstract:

A survey of local authorities found that a total of 26 buy out transactions were completed between 1988 and 1990. However levels declined mainly due to concern about the Audit Commission report. The survey showed that authorities regard buy outs as more beneficial than the Direct Services Organisation (DSO).
