Pesticide use and produce quality: do existing market channels/structure provide adequate information?

Article Abstract:

Policy development covering pesticide applications and produce quality is affected by environmental pressure groups and active consumer concern. Such pressures extend to the formation of USDA produce grade standards, which will affect all market sectors. Pesticide and produce guidelines must also be coursed through market channels that include produce from other countries. Thus, these standards serve as information which consumers use to define produce consumption.

Vertical organization of agribusinesses in transition economies: Hungarian production systems or agricultural franchising?

Article Abstract:

Agricultural franchising is suggested to restructure the vertical organization of agricultural production and service firms in transition economies. This alternative form of franchising may be the solution to the many problems plaguing the agricultural sector of Central and Eastern European countries that include Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and Romania. Agricultural franchising was found to have a similar design with production systems being employed in Hungary.

Food marketing in transition in Eastern and Central Europe

Article Abstract:

Economic transition for the former Soviet Union and Eastern and Central Europe has been hampered by the past administration's structural inefficiencies and the new market's instability. These conditions affected the market for food distribution and agricultural production. The presence of inefficiency at practically all levels of agribusiness and a poor incentive system contributed to the absence of efficient structures for both distribution and production.
