How to set up a plant-maintenance program

Article Abstract:

A sure way for companies to improve their productivity, profitability and worker safety is by establishing a plant-maintenance program. Reactive maintenance, which involves the repair of machinery upon breakdown, solves the problem only on a short-term basis. On the other hand, planned maintenance is more effective since it is geared toward minimizing equipment wear though regular monitoring and timely upkeep. The program begins with the identification of goals, followed by the drawing up of a maintenance file and the maintenance management itself.

Schooling and quitting smoking

Article Abstract:

A study estimates the effect of education on the probability that smokers will give up the habit. The study focuses on the importance of hidden factors in measuring the effect of a smoker's schooling on his vice. Results show that education plays a significant role on the probability that individuals from 25 years up will quit smoking. The conclusion supports Michael Grossman's theory on education and health behavior. However, further research should be made on the educational mechanisms used to reduce smoking.

Please hammer, hurt 'em

Article Abstract:

Stanley Tools' Fubar, or functional utility bar, is the result of eight months of research and development aimed at designing a hammer specifically for demolition. Fubar has a square, sledgehammer-like striking surface connected to the handle by a flattened shaft called a 'breaker edge', both of which pound and cut, while the opposing jaws rip boards apart, giving the tool a major advantage over a traditional hammer.
