Postural control and detection of slip/fall initiation in the elderly population

Article Abstract:

Two controlled groups, diabetics and non-diabetics in the elderly population is investigated to compare how different postural control mechanisms would relate to the detection of perturbation and regain of balance. The result shows that non-diabetic group compared to diabetic group tend to sway more posteriorly and anteriorly in reaction to perturbation and capability for controlling postural balance in the diabetic group is more vulnerable to external perturbation than in the non-diabetic group.

Speed choice by drivers: The issue of driving too slowly

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to check the problem of slow driving in the city of Perth in Western Australia. The result indicates that women and elderly drivers drive more slowly as compared to men and young drivers, even the heavily loaded vehicles move slowly. Moreover, the public suggests that many a times accidents are caused due to slow driving.

Cognitive abilities in driving: differences between normal and hazardous situations

Article Abstract:

The relationship between cognitive abilities and driving behavior in situations of normal driving and hazardous driving are investigated. A multiple regression analysis reveals that the driving component skills showed different effects between normal situations and hazardous situations.
