Practising tax defensively

Article Abstract:

The complexity of the Canadian tax system makes it imperative for tax accountants to develop effective practice management techniques and to be alert to possible problem areas. Some useful measures include having an effective tickler system, customizing retainer letters, double-checking advice and developing consulting sources. Practitioners would also do well to protect the solicitor/client privilege, assess their own limitations, comply with prescribed forms and elections, and pay attention to matters of interest.

Telling a story: the diversity and complexity of 21st-century society demands that we abandon 17th-century concepts of organization, governance, accounting and control

Article Abstract:

Serious attention is needed to resolve the antiquated economic and accounting systems that are blocking the effective management of the diversity and intricacy of the 21st-century society. Problems in health care, education, welfare and environment are only the symptoms and not the disease itself. The root cause is the institutional and governance problem.
