Premiership salaries, Third Division results

Article Abstract:

A survey of United Kingdom directors' pay indicates that not all of them deserve the large sums that they award themselves. SmithKline Beecham head, Jan Leschly, can expect 93 million pounds sterling total pay over a decade from 1999, yet the failure of a merger with Glaxo Wellcome cost SmithKline Beecham some 6 million pounds in 1998. Royal and Sun Alliance group head, Bob Mendelsohn, earned 2.37 million pounds, including a 225,000 pounds bonus, in 1998 when the company's profits dropped by 52%. Bosses can also obtain large sums when they leave companies, as was the case with LucasVarity former head, Victor Rice.
