Press before paper-when media and science collide

Article Abstract:

Media coverage of science before publication and the phenomenon of science by press release have become common mechanisms for the public dissemination of scientific information. An argument that media coverage of scientific discoveries in the absence of corroboration in a peer-reviewed scientific paper not only compromises scientific discourses, but also acts perniciously on the public perception of science is presented.

Gene medication or genetic modification? the devil is in the details

Article Abstract:

This article examines the confusion in defining a 'medicinal product', 'genetic modification' within the contexts of medicine and biosafety. An acceptable definition also clarifies a 'genetically modified organism', which in Europe and elsewhere is subjected to restrictions for their usage.

EU wrangles internally over safety of donated tissues and cells

Three legislative bodies of EU are struggling to agree on a directive on safety of donated human tissues and cells for medicinal use. The expanded use of donor cells for medical use introduces health risks.
