Professional community finds its feet

Article Abstract:

Private banking and financial institutions in the West Midlands, England, are seeing larger deals and new wealth which is helping the sector grow. Deal activity is increasing and is prompted by fears that a new Labor government may be elected, changing the tax position of investors. This has led some private investors to take a profit. There are more investors with amounts of some 150,000 pounds sterling to invest than five years prior to 1995, which is helping the private banking sector.

Abbey National

Article Abstract:

Abbey National Bank saw half year profit up 14% to 483 million pounds sterling. However, its share of the new mortgage market fell 4%, which may lead to higher promotional costs. Life assurance contributed 52 million pounds sterling. The share price will depend on how well National & Provincial fits in, and the success of other sectors outside the mortgage market.
