A national cross-sectional study in the Danish wood and furniture industry on working postures and manual materials handling

Article Abstract:

A health-related study of 281 employees in the Danish wood and furniture industry reveals the subjects to be a high-risk group likely to face injuries to their necks, shoulders and lower backs mainly as a result of maintaining improper posture during wood working and painting tasks. Effective strategies are much-needed to ensure employee safety, especially during tasks such as materials handling, feeding and clearing of machines.

Limitations in the application of materials handling guidelines

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to evaluate materials handling guidelines. The importance of such guidelines is reflected in the increasing number of valid personal injury claims being processed and in their application to practitioners and health and safety personnel. Thus, case studies which illustrate the limits of manual materials handling depict the need for regulatory agencies to monitor these limits.
