Pulling green biotechnology out of the red

Article Abstract:

Environmental biotechnology has usually been considered a secondary technology compared to medical biotechnology. A shortage of resources and manpower, and a lack of concentration on economically-viable environmental solutions have only worsened the situation. New environmental technologies are accepted providing they improve a firm's profit margin or if they are made mandatory by law. However, the technology has seen new advances in plant genetics and enzyme engineering. It is also experiencing a trend where molecular biologists are forming teams with synthetic chemists for interdisciplinary projects. This is helping to move environmental biotechnology into the production pipeline.
