QDR sees raptor stretch-out, eight MPF(F) ships

Article Abstract:

The Department of Defense (DoD) in its Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR)-the long-term strategic plan recommends keeping the F-22A Raptor supersonic stealth fighter production line running hot through 2010, until Lockheed Martin Corp. can begin producing the future F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF). QDR also recommends to nearly double unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) coverage by accelerating acquisition of Predator (General Atomics) and Global Hawk (Northrop Grumman Corp.) unmanned aircraft.

Critique: QDR doesn't spell out resources needed for military

Article Abstract:

The Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) of long-term military needs released in 2006 has many potentially valid positions on future needs but does not spell out in clear detail on the way the Pentagon would go about the business of spending $2.5 trillion to $3 trillion in the next five years. The Project on Defense Alternatives (PDA) critique has stated that although there are no conflicts in QDR goals, the every-fours review of defense requirements are vague on use of the fund.
