Quintain Estates is a UK real estate company which has performed well through investing in real estate with short leaseholds. The company plans to raise 15 million pounds sterling in new funds with a share placing of 50 million pounds in Jul 1996. Quintain has succeeded in renegotiating leases and thus making a profit. The company also invests in lower-risk real estate and takes an analytical approach to the real estate industry. The chief executive is Adrian Wyatt who previously specialized in short leaseholds as a partner with Jones Lang Wootton.

Slough Estates shares have not performed well since 1987, and a rapid improvement is unlikely in 1996. Some 67% of the company's portfolio is accounted for by industrial real estate. The value of industrial real estate dropped in the UK in 1995. Slough Estates' industrial real estate dropped by less than the average, and the company has been successful in finding tenants with 94.5% occupancy levels, but there is scant scope for improvement.
