Relief for Telefonica

Article Abstract:

The Spanish government has to decide the fees to be paid by Retevision to Telefonica for using its network. Telefonica is seeking 7 pesetas a minute while Retevision wants to pay 2 pta. The rate is likely to be set at 5.23 pta. Retevision will be hampered in its efforts to compete in the telecoms market and this would in turn affect the government's plans to privatize a stake of 60% in Retevision. Telefonica would suffer a drop in its share price if the price were set too low.
