Nike on the back foot

Article Abstract:

Nike has seen a drop in its share price and the company's stock rating has been downgraded by a few analysts. The share price reached a peak of $75 in Feb 1997 and has since fallen by 25%. The share price fall has been linked to a report from Smith Barney that Nike was cutting production at plants in East Asia. Nike denies that growth is slowing and has stated that orders have increased in 1997 compared with 1996. Some analysts have not downgraded Nike stock and see retail demand as strong.
