Satellites Are Revolutionizing Business Communications

Article Abstract:

An expected growth rate of thirty to fifty percent per year is projected through 1990 for satellite communications. Terrestrial systems usually cost twice as much for businesses with large volumes of voice and data traffic. Transmission speeds of sixty-four million bits of information per second can be reached. Metropolitan Life saved over $1.4 million with a private network. Video conferencing is a growing possibility with costs being cut with new video compression technology.
