Self-select Peps

Article Abstract:

Self-select personal equity plans (Peps) allow investors to deal in shares of their choice using the tax advantages of Peps. Self-select Peps account for less than a tenth of UK Peps. Fees have tended to be high for this type of Pep, but they are being reduced due to comeptition. Reinvestment of dividends may be a problem because of the relatively small sums involved which leads to high charges per investment. Unit trust Peps avoid this problem since dividends can be automatically reinvested.

No hurry to buy new Peps

Article Abstract:

The UK market for personal equity plans (Peps), investment vehicles providing tax advantages, will see new offerings as the tax year ends. Investors should be cautious in Jan 1995, since they will have greater choice before the fiscal year ends. New income funds are likely to be launched in large numbers in the 1995-1996 tax year There is also the factor that the US stock market could collapse, affecting UK equities, and the chance of this happening is rated at 1 in 3.

Peps the DIY way

Article Abstract:

Active UK investors can use self-select personal equity plans (Peps) giving freedom to invest in cash or move out of it according to their perception of share performance. Some self-select Peps involve restrictions on the variety of managed funds that can be selected or the number of securities held. There are execution-only Peps and advisory plans. Charges are not always easy to assess, and there may be hidden costs such as transfer charges and dealing charges.
