Service and returns, discretion guaranteed

Article Abstract:

Discretionary portfolio management may be needed by new investors, and those without enough time or willingness to assess markets. Investment performance is once way of assessing portfolio managers, and WM Company provides performance benchmarks. Brokers may offer other services such as dealing with capital gains tax for investors. Clients may also be offered tax planning advice, as well as general advice on financial planning. Investors should still pay attention to performance, since the provision of tax services does not compensate for poor investment management.

Patience required for best returns

Article Abstract:

With-profit bonds have attracted investors seeking to avoid risk, since they permit exposure to equities while smoothing out volatility in markets. Returns from with-profit portfolios have been affected by drops in interest rates, and this looks set to continue. Some 25% of with-profit portfolios are invested in assets that generate interest and which are therefore affected by interest rate falls. Investors can choose from capital growth or a tax-free income if that income is less than 5% of the sum initially invested.

Bargain hunting

Article Abstract:

United Kingdom zero dividend preference stocks are a rapidly growing segment of the UK market for investment trusts. They are considered suitable for investors with a low tolerance for risk since their volatility levels are low in relation to conventional stocks. More than 40 zeros are available, and special analytical tools are needed to assess whether their prices are attractive. There are also collective investment vehicles that provide exposure to this sector.
