Hot under the City collar

Article Abstract:

The Bank of England was responsible for Crest, the UK share settlement system, following the failure of Taurus, developed by the London Stock Exchange. There is rivalry between the bank and the stock exchange and it is not clear how far they can co-operate together. Share settlement will be transferred from the exchange to Crest in summer 1996. Crest will be run by CrestCo, an independent concern, and the exchange will lose access to data needed to monitor markets.
