Silentnight is the largest bed maker in the UK having 20% of the bed market. Beds are often a distress purchase, being driven by the need to replace a worn-out bed, keeping demand steady. Profit is less steady due to trading up and down between costly and cheap beds. The company's cabinet-making arm includes a loss-making acquisition. Shares are at 175 pence, and have probably borne the damage of the imminent exceptional cost of reorganizing the three cabinet factories.
