Splitting up is hard to do

Article Abstract:

British individual savings accounts (Isas) offer tax advantages, while split capital investment trusts offer high yields, and, together with corporate bnds, offer the best options for investors seeking high yields. The income shares of these trusts give yields that satisfy demanding problems of financial planning, such as the need to pay fees for nursing homes. There are specialist brokers in this sector who can offer useful data, and managed funds are available for investors seeking to focus on mainstream portfolios.

How to invest a nifty fifty

Article Abstract:

Investors with 50,000 pounds sterling should seek capital growth if they are relatively young, and less in need of an income. Collective investments are easier and less risky than selecting stocks in blue-chip companies, and investors can choose between investment trusts and unit trusts. Investment trusts have been affected by large discounts which has led to criticism. Balanced portfolio funds represent less of a risk than do equity funds. Benchmarks can be used to measure a fund's performance.

Selective reasoning

Article Abstract:

United Kingdom investors seeking an income are affected by the reduction on dividend tax credit due to come into force in April 1999. Lower interest rates and bond yields also affect income from investments. Utilities and financials no longer offer yields that are much higher than average, so more balance is needed in portfolios. Convertibles and corporate bonds are another source of income. Split capital investment trusts offer income stocks which can also be considered.
