Enrichment of tomato flavor by diversion of the early plastidial terpenoid pathway

Article Abstract:

The flavor and aroma of tomatoes are modified by expressing the Ocimum basilicum geraniol synthase gene under the control of the tomato ripening-specific polygalacturonase promoter. Majority of the untrained taste panelists preferred the transgenic fruits over controls and monoterpene accumulation was found to be at the expense of the reduced lycopene accumulation.
