Surveyors march into new territory

Article Abstract:

Surveyors in Manchester, England, benefited from the real estate boom in the late 1980s but were hit by the recession of the early 1990s. Facilities management has become more important for surveyors, as is the government's Private Finance Initiative (PFI). Chesterton is one company that has reduced its dependency on agency work and geared itself to the PFI. Lambert Smith Hampton has not followed the trend of moving into facilities management and sees agency work as important for the company which can compete well due to the strength of its regional base.

Some rooms at the top

Article Abstract:

Manchester, England, has a strong market for city center apartments and investors have bought around 40% of new build apartments sold in 1999. There are over 5,500 people living in Manchester's city center, and this figure looks set to rise to 10,000 in the three years from 1999. Fringe locations may offer good yields, but there could also be problems in selling the propoerty. Sites in the center are being exhausted, and Salford could be another area for expansion.
