Dealing with venture capitalists

Article Abstract:

Venture capitalists are attracted by growth businesses that will realize a respectable return on investment (ROI) over a 3 to 5 year period. A business should carefully assess its needs and goals before seeking a compatible investor in the same business located within a day's travel. Venture capital finances companies at all stages of development, but 44 percent of the total capital invested in 1986 was for expansion projects. More than two-thirds of all companies were located on the West Coast (41 percent) and in the Northeast (31 percent). Geographical location and growth potential were reflected in the popularity of computer hardware and software companies (29 percent) and other electronic industries (13 percent).
