The United Nations regional preparatory conferences for UNISPACE III

Article Abstract:

Three regional preparatory conferences were held in 1998 in advance of the United Nations Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space III. Organized by the Office for Outer Space Affairs and co-sponsored by the European Space Agency, the conferences addressed various issues of specific interest and concern to the particular region where the conference was held. They also emphasized enhancing the member states' understanding of the role and use of space technology in social and economic development. These meetings were held in Malaysia, Morocco and Chile.

Converting aviation and aerospace technologies to civilian use

Article Abstract:

The working group E at the recent UN conference on conversion issued a report on the prospects for converting military aviation and aerospace technologies to civilian use. The group stated that conversion entailed numerous difficulties which cannot be grouped under a single common denominator. The procedures by which conversion can be implemented and recommended substantive options in this regard were presented.

Civilian satellite remote sensing: a strategic approach

Article Abstract:

Enhanced international cooperation and incorporation of the data requirements of both federal and non-government data users are prerequisites in enhancing the utility of remote-sensing technologies in the nation. Earth sensing satellites are useful in weather forecasting, mapping Earth's features and to manage natural resources.
