The Wall Street Journal Report on Television: Salescall

Article Abstract:

A "Salescall" presentation at The Wall Street Journal Report on Television (WSJRT) included a panel discussion about the program itself, and its place in the television advertising market. WSJRT staff panel participants included: Carl Sabatino, Bob Syers and Barbara Hussey. Other panelists included: Bruce Wager of Edwin Bird Wilson; Marilyn Fisher of Lowe Marschalk; Jan Pattison of Ted Bates Advertising and Mary Jean Fitzpatrick of Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, Inc. WSJRT has aired weekly since October 1986, and its editorial profile reflects The Wall Street Journal newspaper. The company gauges the show's success on building viewer belief that it is a "must view," and on the show's continued growth. Although WSJRT had only one major competitor in 1985, nine other similar syndicated shows have appeared since then.

Salescall: Hearst's outdoor book gears up to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 1987

Article Abstract:

Sports Afield, a Hearst Corporation magazine, will celebrate its 100th year of publication in 1987. The magazine's publishing and sales managers discuss Sports Afield's sales strategy and plans for special advertising promotions through 1987. The editorial and graphic style of the magazine was overhauled in the 1970s. In an attempt to appeal to a new audience of outdoorsmen who were better educated and more affluent, four-color graphics were used more extensively and the articles became more literate and broader in scope. In their advertising for issues throughout 1987, the magazine is promoting special sections that will allow advertisers to announce their own anniversaries with two-page spreads consisting of a full-page ad and a full page of copy on the facing page.
