The accountant and the fund manager

Article Abstract:

Accountants and fund managers managing the investment affairs of a common client have a close inter-professional relationship. The quality of their relationship is important to the management of the client's investment affairs. Accountants choosing fund managers for a client should select a firm characterized by continuity in both organization and personnel because the accountant and the fund manager must have a high level of understanding. When choosing a fund manager, the accountant should analyze the size of the group, the funds under management, and the number of clients, which are all available from the group's published accounts. The financial services offered by different companies should be considered and compared and a shortlist of candidates should be met with personally to ascertain which will provide the best service.

MDP: an unstoppable professional vehicle?

Article Abstract:

Multidisciplinary practices (MDPs) in the UK are practices, whether corporations or firms, in which there is participation by professionals other than chartered accountants. The professionals may be accountants with different qualifications, solicitors, or investment specialists. MDPs offer clients comprehensive services. Reasons for the rise of MDPs include a desire to reduce overhead, increased demands for greater accountability, and a blurring of the demarcation lines between law and accounting. While a great number of accountants favor the move to MDPs, a majority of solicitors do not, indicating that MDPs with both accountants and solicitors will continue to be rare. However, MDPs will continue to offer services in addition to those offered by chartered accountants.
