Petra Diamonds is a diamond mining company set up by Adonis Pouroulis, a mining engineer who is developing sites in South Africa. The company has raised 2.5 million pounds sterling in a floation on the Alternative Investment Market and will seek further funds if not enough diamonds have been discovered before the funds run out. Initial resuls have been encouraging at the Blue Diamond site, and another site called Pagvlei is also being developed though at an earlier stage than Blue Diamond.

Cambridge pans for Irish gemstones

Cambridge Mineral Resources (CMR) has raised 80,000 pounds sterling in a stock placing for work on potential acquisitions. The company is focusd on Ireland where it has discovered sapphires while seeking diamonds, and is active in other countries including Spain and Laos. CMR has joined Hanover Continental to exploit a Laotian mining license. The company invests 20,000 pounds sterling monthly in exploration, with samples sent to Diatech for analysis.
