Could bank loans solve Europe's biotech financing slump?

Article Abstract:

The giant European Investment Bank (EIB) is planning to loan millions of euros to biotech firms in late-stage product development to improve the Europe's weak financing record. The EIB initiative comes in response to pressure from the European Commission, which has identified a 'financing gap'-particularly in the late stage as the biggest single barrier to European Union biotech competitiveness.

Biotech firms who wish to collaborate with Venture Capital firms for financing, should concentrate on good planning and on the ability to read between the lines, negligence of both of which may lead to failure of their collaborations. Several examples of failures that could sink even the most promising of courtships with a Venture capital firm are presented.
