The complex role of perceptual organization in visual display design theory

Article Abstract:

Experiments were conducted to examine the role of perceptual organization in visual display design theory. The emergent features approach was used to provide better failure detetion performance. Contrary to predicted results, failure detection speed and accuracy were not enhanced bythe emergent features method. The results indicate that the alternative perceptual organizational factors overpowered the intended effect.

A comparison of the augmented bar display and the object display

Article Abstract:

Results from a twin experimental study revealed the utility of incorporating information attained from object displays with bar displays in enhancing the nature of integration task functioning in the bar display. However, enhanced attention is much-needed to ensure that information from the object display is relevant to the specific integration task.

Pointing movement visually controlled through a video display: Adaptation to scale change

Article Abstract:

Subjects undertaking a pointing movement task controlled visually through a video display adapt well to scale changes. However, their adaptation is specific to the scale used and does not seem to allow perception of a single working space.
