The determinants of U.S. foreign direct investment in India: implications and policy issues

Article Abstract:

The rise in foreign investment in India can be greatly attributed to the adoption of free market economy policies. Quarterly data for a thirty-three year period (1962-1994) showed that the rise in foreign direct investment (FDI) in India from $148 million in 1991-92 to $3 billion in 1993-94 can be specifically attributed to the implementation of liberalization processes It was also shown that factors influencing American FDI in the country are significant only for the exchange rate coefficient.
