The development of strategic management: journal quality and article impact

Article Abstract:

A study of 17 management journals was conducted to examine the influence business policy and management periodicals have had between 1977 and 1988 on the field of management and managerial performance and to test the validity of previous research findings. Current research results suggest that quality rating findings in previous research correlate closely with the current objective analysis of periodical influence. Research results also indicate that over a 12-year period, scholarly power of strategic management publications has expanded by almost three-fold. Additionally, research findings suggest that the growth of strategic management research and expansion of its power may have developed because of challenges born out of the continuing decline in US business performance.

Loop-based strategic decision support systems

Article Abstract:

Strategic decision support systems enable companies to quantitatively analyze various corporate strategies. This system has two divisions; the simulation approach, and the knowledge-based (expert) system. Simulation models are utilized in strategy selection and testing. Knowledge-based systems are used in problem-solving. The two processes can be combined in a loop-based strategic decision support system. This innovation enables companies to examine the rule-setting strategic decision-making and the rule-fulfilling policy decision processes. The loop-based system consists of feedback mechanisms which have the capability to change a system's structure when there is an inconsistency in the system's actual and desired behavior.
