The economics of small business finance: the roles of private equity and debt markets in the financial growth cycle

Article Abstract:

Small business enterprises obtain financial leverage through internal resources, which are often inadequate in meeting the firm's financial needs. In order to address such problems, firms seek financiual assistance from private equity and debt markets through the help of intermediaries. Intermediaries do not only provide highly complex contracts to small businesses but also render screening, contracting and monitoring services in order to help them resolve information problems.

The ability of banks to lend to informationally opaque small businesses

Article Abstract:

The ability of foreign-owned and large banks to lend to small businesses is discussed in detail. Small business loans are difficult for large banks, and small businesses may borrow from multiple banks in cases of bank distress.
