The effect of bank capital requirements on bank off-balance sheet financial innovations

Article Abstract:

The off-balance sheet activities of banks are examined in relation to the effect of bank capital requirements. Past research has shown, with rather ambiguous results, the existence of such a relationship. A model is formulated that incorporates the assumption that such activities are in the nature of financial innovations. Results show that capital requirements fluctuations do not significantly affect the speed of adoption of off-balance sheet activities.

Perspectives on bank capital regulation and managerial compensation

Article Abstract:

The provisions on bank capital regulation of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Improvement Act of 1991 as well as their relationship with the issue of management compensation are discussed. The structure of management compensation should be considered by regulators inasmuch as the former affects the riskiness of assets.
