The effect of bank relations on investment decisions: an investigation of Japanese takeover bids

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that advantages of bank relations are greater for companies with fewer sound investment opportunities when the banking industry is healthy. It is posited that close ties with banks, typically informed creditors, afford companies with improved investment management strategies, which in turn benefit shareholders.

Divestitures and divisional investment policies

Article Abstract:

Studies on business segment divestment by diversified companies indicate that segment investment efficiency improves significantly after divestiture, which is linked to a diversification discount reduction. The diversification discount is also found to be partially attributable to inefficient investment.
