The effects of tyre pressure on the economy of cycling

Article Abstract:

The relationship between tire presssure and energy outlay is examined since cyclists ordinarily inflate tires to a maximum allowable pressure to reduce rolling resistance and assume that it also reduces energy outlay. This assumption needs verification. Seven racing cyclists gave their consent to engage in the study. Differences in rolling resistance by changing tire pressure from 552 and 965 kPa, were found to be too negligible to affect energy expenditure.

Laxatives

Article Abstract:

Constipation is caused by eating insufficient fibre, irregular eating patterns and stress. It can easily be remedied without using laxatives, but one in five people take them. Laxatives can be used after childbirth or when recovering from surgery. A product guide to bulk-forming laxatives, stimulant laxatives, osmotic laxatives, faecal softeners or suppositories is given. Doctors and pharmacists should be consulted if constipation lasts over one week.
