The impact of U.S. company internationalization on top management team advice networks: a tacit knowledge perspective

Article Abstract:

A study examined how members of top management teams (TMTs) of multinational corporations seek advice regarding matters concerning international business (IB). More specifically, this research focused on the impact of the multinational's international strategy on the density of the team's IB advice network. TMT members from 37 companies completed either a CEO or a team member questionnaire. Findings revealed that the degree of corporate internationalization and the interdependence across country-market activities are positively associated with the IB advice network density. When non-US business extends further and linkages among IB units become stronger, the demand for IB expertise within the TMT was found to increase, sharing of IB knowledge among TMT members became more intense and the IB advice network density expanded.

Commentary on 'Corporate strategies and environmental regulations: an organizing framework' by A.M. Rugman and A. Verbeke

Article Abstract:

The concept of corporate social responsibility is a central factor in the analysis of the nature of the strategic management task for multinational enterprises (MNEs) facing environmental regulations at five levels. Specifically, the debate between self-interest and broader social responsibility is at the core of interactions between environmental regulations and MNEs' corporate strategies. The lack of definitions of corporate social responsibility or corporate social responsiveness that can provide a model for the systematic organization and examination of data on these concepts contributes to their continued ambiguity and the disparate proposals and recommendations on managing social responsibility.
