A knight from the planet Mars

Article Abstract:

Sir David Tweedie of the Accounting Standards Board (ASB) is the recipient of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales' (ICAEW) Founding Societies Award. He is a Scottish chartered accountant but holds reciprocal ICAEW membership. He earned a commerce degree at Edinburgh, worked as a trainee accountant with Mann Judd Gordon in Glasgow, and served as a lecturer at the Edinburgh University for five years. Tweedie later became director of research at the Scottish Institute and then as technical partner at Thomson McLintock. He is widely acknowledged for his contributions in gaining universal acceptance for the ASB and for his involvement in efforts to harmonize international accounting standards. His job at the ASB has brought him into conflict with other leading figures in the field of accounting, but Tweedie says he enjoys these encounters.
