The platform shift

Article Abstract:

Designers are being compelled to shift over to the PCs as they want their work to perform well on both Macintosh computers and PCs. Although Macintosh serves designers' purpose better, the advent of Windows 95 has made PCs so popular in the corporate world that clients want designers to use PCs. However, the color palette and point sizes of type delivered by the Windows operating system are unsatisfactory. Apple computer has come up with new designs, such as PowerBook, eMate 300, and an insect-shaped design with an angle keyboard, to counter the idea that Macintosh has become obsolete.

Digital gods: Microsoft's Comic Chat puts Net surfers in the funny pages

Article Abstract:

The ubiquitous chat rooms on the Internet are steadily being replaced by graphical environments where participants are represented by icons. One of the best graphic environments today is the Microsoft Network's Comic Chat. Unlike other chat rooms where dialogues are conducted via disembodied heads, Comic Chat uses full bodies as well as an array of facial expressions and gestures. Conversations take place in a comic-strip setting which unfolds panel by panel.

Digital dollars

Article Abstract:

Electronic cash is changing the notion of money from a physical to an electronic entity. Money cards store cash electronically on plastic cards, and E-cash, a series of numbers given by a bank, can be used as cash on the Internet. The concept of E-cash ensures the development and growth of electronic systems and is likely to assist the bankers' development and growth as well.
