The role of friction in the measurement of slipperiness, part 1: friction mechanisms and definition of test conditions

Article Abstract:

The article assesses the shoe and floor interface as a component of slipperiness for the prevention of occupational slip-and-fall accidents. Discussion covers measurement techniques for icy and solid, liquid, and dry contaminated surfaces. A drag-type technique is appropriate for clean and dry surfaces, whereas transition and dynamic friction techniques are required for measuring all other surfaces.

Human-centered approaches in slipperiness measurement

Article Abstract:

Friction-based criteria are examined to prevent occupational slip-and-fall accidents. These include walking on inclined or level surfaces; jumping, running, and stopping; stair climbing and descending; load carrying, pulling, pushing, and lifting; and mobility in disabled or elderly persons.
