Time Warner Inc

Article Abstract:

Merv Adelson sold Lorimar Telepictures to Time Warner Inc in 1989. Adelson, however, reacquired 100,000 shares of Time Warner for about $2.45 million last Oct 1992, increasing his holding to 39%. The acquisition was made prior to Time Warner's disclosure of a $6 million and $18 million profit hikes for the Sep 1992 quarter and the nine months through Sep 1992, respectively. The gains were a complete turn-around from 1991's losses. All of the media company's five divisions accounted for the growth which lowered its debt to only $2.4 billion. An analyst projected that the stock will indicate per share earnings by late 1993.

Heritage Media Corp

Article Abstract:

Heritage Media Corp (HTG), advertising firm and owner of radio and television broadcasting stations, suffered a $7.2 million loss during the March quarter of 1992 and $19.7 million in total losses in 1991. The no-profit trend started in Aug 1987 when it was formed as a buyout from Heritage Communications Corp. However, a refinancing scheme in Mar 1992 prompted Hallmark Cards Inc's H.C. Crown Corp to invest $2.5 million in HTG stock, which eventually increased its stake in HTG to 21.9% or 2.65 million shares.

Viacom Inc

Article Abstract:

Redstone felt Viacom stock was undervalued since a new Senate cable bill requiring competition between local broadcasters and cable companies has negatively affected Viacom's stock price. Long term prospects look favorable, however, especially when considering the strong programming segment and recent renegotiation of debt.
