The initial step in compliance, documenting their controls has proved to be much more work than companies expected, and so many have decided to stick with systems and controls they already have in place rather than attempt major automation or consolidation at the eleventh hour. Analysts and vendors say that the extent of the work companies have had to do in the first year will encourage them to buy software to make compliance easier in ensuing years.
